Microsoft honored by Hiring Our Heroes for ongoing commitment to veterans and their spouses

EDITORIAL UPDATE: (February 2021) The Microsoft Military Affairs team is committed to the military spouse community; however, at this time we have decided to discontinue the Military Spouse Technology Academy (MSTA). We will continue to look for and evaluate additional programs to support the military spouse community going forward (or in the future). Please continue to visit our military.microsoft.com website for any future military spouse community updates.

On Wednesday, Microsoft was honored to be recognized by the U.S. Chamber of Commerce for our continued support of the military community.

During the organization’s eighth annual Hiring Our Heroes Awards Gala, Microsoft was awarded the Military Spouse Employment and Mentoring Award for “demonstrating hiring, mentorship and support of military spouses in their search for meaningful employment.”

The award comes on the heels of launching our new Military Spouse Technology Academy (MSTA) pilot last September. The program is specifically designed to provide spouses of active duty military with skills training to help them transition to long-lasting, meaningful and portable technology careers, as well as mentorship and support building their professional network.

“As we work with this community, we’ve become more aware of the need to support military spouses,” said USMC MajGen Chris Cortez (Ret.), Vice President of Microsoft Military Affairs. “They face unique employment challenges, yet they’re incredibly resilient and innovative.”

Modeled after the impactful Microsoft Software & Systems Academy (MSSA) and our efforts to bring YouthSpark to military bases, MSTA is the latest example of how Microsoft works to provide opportunities that address learning, career and economic gaps experienced by the military community.

Microsoft is pleased to continue our work with Hiring Our Heroes and the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, as well as our more than 360 MSSA hiring partners. Our mutual success is an important example of how partnerships between public and private organizations can successfully empower everyone and help move our country forward.
